Frequently Asked Questions

What age range is suitable for the Project of the Month Club?

In general, our projects will be appropriate for children 4-11 years old. As with most activities, the younger children will most likely require parental supervision, and the older children may require some help getting started or an extra set of hands.

Can I give a membership as a gift?
YES! Giving someone a membership to the Project of the Month Club is a great way to make your gift last throughout the year. Each month when the new project arrives you become a hero all over again! Kids will be excited to work on another new project. Parents will be appreciative that they didn't have to think up a creative idea and/or drive to the store to buy supplies. No matter if you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle or a friend...you'll make everyone happy when you give a membership to the Project of the Month Club.

Does it have to be a gift?
No. The project box can be addressed to mom, dad, grandma or grandpa and each month and you can simply pull the project out when appropriate. A lot of grandparents like the idea of having their grandkids receive something from them each month...they secretly hope it might result in extra phone calls and/or pictures from their grandkids telling them about the great "accomplishments" of another successful project. There are also many grandparents that prefer to have the projects delivered to their house so they have something fun to do when their grandkids come over to visit.

Are there certain project categories that are better for boys (or girls)?
We don't like to stereotype any of our members - we've seen lots of girls love to bang things with a hammer and rough and tough little boys get really interested in making T-shirts. With that in mind, we offer several categories of projects for your children and look to you to pick which category you think your child would like best (Woodworking, Future Designers, Mix & Match, Aspiring Artists, or Seismic Scientists). If you can't decide on a category, you can start with Mix & Match because it is a very well-rounded grouping of projects.

Can I upgrade my membership?
YES! If you want to upgrade from a quarterly or bi-monthly membership to an annual membership, we will prorate the unused portion of your current membership and apply it towards a new annual membership. Please email us at customerservice@projectofthemonthclub.com with details of your request.

Can I choose which projects my child receives each month?
You can select the category of projects your child receives (Mix & Match, Woodworking, Future Designers, Aspiring Artists, or Seismic Scientists). The descriptions on the Project Category tab indicate the projects associated with each category. You may also change project categories if you think there is a better fit for your child. For example, if your child is getting Mix & Match projects and he/she is really enjoying the Woodworking Projects most, just let us know and we'll switch their membership to the other category. We'll deliver the new category of projects as soon as possible, but timing will depend on when you ask us to make the change. It is likely that your child may receive one or two more projects from the old category before receiving the new ones.

What if I have three kids, do I need 3 memberships?
It really depends on how you want your kids to work with the projects. Depending on how your children interact and their skill sets, it is very feasible for your kids to work on a project together. However, many children prefer to have their own project to build, design and/or decorate themselves. You know your children best, so we'll leave this decision up to you.

When do we receive the projects?
Your first project usually arrives 2-3 weeks after your place your order. During the Hanukkah and Christmas holidays we have shipping/order deadlines posted on our home page, so please follow those, not the 2-3 week rule. After the first project arrives, subsequent projects (if applicable) will be sent according to the delivery schedule you selected. Please let us know special delivery requests (i.e. birthday gift) by entering a note in the "Comment Box" during the checkout process.

Are the projects safe?
Yes, all of the projects are safe as long as they are supervised by an adult (we would never encourage an adult to give a hammer, scissors or screwdriver to their smaller child and "turn them loose" without supervision). The materials we provide should have no problem meeting the "mom test" since they have to pass our "moms' test" before we send them to you. If a project arrives that you are uncomfortable with from a safety perspective, please let us know and we will do our best to remedy the situation.

Is shipping and handling included in the purchase price?
The membership prices listed include the packaging, standard (ground) shipping and handling of all projects sent to you throughout the year. There is an option to have projects shipped overnight or 2-day air for an additional charge.

Are the projects made in the United States?
Our preference is to buy and/or manufacture all of the projects in the United States. However, many of the projects will be produced partially or entirely overseas due to production costs. If we can find sources in the US to produce the same high quality projects at a price close to what are offering, we won't hesitate to choose US sourcing. Please contact us if you know of any US manufacturers that might produce the kind of materials we are using.

Why is there sales tax added to my order in Illinois, but no other states need to add sales tax?
We're not tax experts, but our experts tell us that since Creative Ideas For Kids, LLC is located in Illinois, we need to add sales tax to all orders shipped to Illinois addresses. We collect that sales tax and forward it to the State of Illinois. Other states, where we are not located, transfer the sales tax collection issue to the end user.

Can someone outside the United States join the Project of the Month Club?
Project of the Month Club can be shipped to children outside of the continental United States on a case by case basis. Due to significantly higher shipping costs, we need to quote membership pricing on a case-by-case basis for members living in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico or outside of the united states. For membership pricing, please email us at sales@projectofthemonthclub.com and let us know which membership type you would like, the project category, and the shipping address for the projects. We'll respond by email within 48 hours with specific pricing info and ordering instructions if you want to make a purchase with Project of the Month Club.

Are your materials available in Spanish or other languages?
Right now the Project of the Month Club is only available in English, but we will be happy to expand our offerings as demand grows for Spanish and/or other languages.

What if my kids don't like or can't do the projects?
You have a few different options. We can "freeze" the membership until you think the projects would be better suited for your child or you can transfer the membership to someone else you know. If you don't have anyone you want to transfer it to, you could always donate the remainder of the membership to a charitable organization and take a tax deduction (please check with your tax advisor). We recommend Ronald McDonald's House or St. Jude's Hospital, as they both care for the family of children with long-term illnesses, treatments, and or/recovery time and they are always appreciative of creative activities for their patients and their families.

Are the projects made from recycled materials?
We will use recycled materials whenever it is economically feasible. The environment is very much on our minds so we plan to have a "Green Scorecard" on our website to let our customers know what we are doing to be environmentally conscious. In the initial stages, our "greenest" efforts will be made in the children's online area where they can earn "Green Rewards" for things like getting mom and dad to walk or bike to the store instead of drive, taking a shower instead of a bath to conserve water, turning off the lights to save energy, etc.

Why shouldn't I just go to the craft store and buy my own projects?
You are always welcome to create your own projects for your children and we encourage you to do so. The Project of the Month Club is for those parents/grandparents who don't have the time, energy or creativity to come up with new projects each month. By taking the "hassle factor" out of doing projects, we hope our service allows you to spend extra time with your children/grandchildren while they engage in a creative project each month, rather than running around to craft and supply stores.
